A shofar is a wind instrument created by nature and used by humanity for over 4,000 years. The mysterious sound and rich history of the shofar have intrigued and captivated people’s hearts throughout generations. The shofar horn was used for various purposes, such as spiritual ceremonies, as a musical instrument, a war trumpet, for the king’s coronation, for praising God, and as a means to connect to a higher spiritual level and the divine. Today, the shofar is primarily used as a tool for spiritual connection and religious ceremonies.

We use a few different types of horns, including those from kudu, ram, oryx, and eland.

The craft of shofar making is conducted under very strict supervision and requirements. The animals are required to be in good health for the shofar to be certified. Behind the shofar craftsmanship is a spiritual belief that by allowing selected animals to be utilized as shofars and serve a higher purpose of connecting people to holiness, it also serves the animal itself. They get to serve God, are used in an act of holiness, and their souls are elevated to a higher level by doing so.

There are different types of polished shofar finishes. Some are fully polished to a high gloss, while others are left partially unpolished to showcase the horn’s natural look.

Shofars can be left natural or intensely polished to create an impressive sheen. You can also purchase half-and-half shofars, where the bottom half is polished, and the top half is left natural.

The length of a shofar is not measured from end to end. Instead, it is measured around the curve or curves of the horn.

Simply put, the longest shofars are the easiest to blow.

If you are a beginner in blowing the shofar, we suggest getting a 35″–39″ shofar, as it’s the easiest to blow, even though smaller and more affordable options are available. The 35″–39″ size is ideal for beginners.
